Road Runner.
This weekend I've done just over 1000 miles and have ended up back in Plymouth. Now Iv'e been pretty lucky travelling back and forth were traffic jams and road works are concerned but there is a few things I just cant handle, (Traffic Cops and Speed cameras). You see when you spend as much time as I in the car you tend to put the world to rights and Im sure you are sitting there thinking, 'Yip I do the same'. It wouldn't be the first time that I've had a conversation with the steering wheel. 'I hope my mates aren't reading this'.
What does my head in is that the government are prepared to sell you car at a price of which is equivalent to a large mortgage and which will have a huge tax addition, will reach speeds that would melt the tarmac off the road but they put a speed restricton in of 70mph or less. They also put other measures in place like Speed cops and cameras to enforce these restrictions. Do I sound like a man that has 9 points on his licence. "Damn Right".
The speed cops where I live hide behind a wall pointing their radar gun over the top to catch un-suspecting motorists. My first set came when I was doing 36 in a 30. He stopped me, showed me a number on the back of his radar gun and told me I was doing over the legal limit. Now that could've been any amount of cars in front of me but Traffic Cops expect you to take it as gospel by virtue of the fact that they wear a uniform and have a warrant card. There's no picture of your car on a radar gun like the one you get on a speed camera. Now I do have a chip on my shoulder about this but to top It all I didnt have my Licence on me and the address where I lived was different than the one on it. To say the least this Cop had a field day chewing my ass. 'Obviously Dunkin Donuts was shut the day I was speeding and he wanted to take it out on someone'.
I don't consider my self a danger on the road and I have 13yrs of experience driving with full no claims, however I'm sure my insurance will rise again this year, but what do we expect if we give out suspended sentences to drivers who are blind and getting directions from a friend like the one who was recently caught and admonishing Traffic cops who are driving at 159 mph claiming he was putting his new patrol car through its paces is utter "Bollocks", 159mph whilst not in pursuit or attending an emergency is breaking the law and the scales of justice are extremely one sided.
